We are pleased to announce that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers will be conducting in-person enrollment interviews for applicants to CBP’s Global Entry program at the Seoul Global Center in Seoul, Korea. Global Entry is a CBP program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Though intended for frequent international travelers, there is no minimum number of trips necessary to qualify for the program. Participants may enter the United States by using automated kiosks located at select airports. Global Entry is currently available at 34 U.S. airports, as well as 8 preclearance airports in Canada, and 2 preclearance sites in Ireland. For complete details on the program, please visit http://www.globalentry.gov.
Global Entry is designed to be quick, efficient, and, at the same time, provide added security for international travelers. While Global Entry’s goal is to speed travelers through the process, members are still subject to the same laws and regulations as other travelers, and may be selected for further examination at any time when entering the United States. For U.S. citizen travelers, Global Entry approval also allows you to be eligible to participate in the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Pre-Check initiative which expedites screening through TSA checkpoints at participating airports.
If you are a U.S. citizen residing in Korea and interested in participating in the local interview process, you will need to apply through the Global Entry web site (www.globalentry.gov) by October 11, 2013. Go to “Apply Today” on the Global Entry website, and you will link to the Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) site (https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov). Korean citizens are required to be active members in the Korea Immigration Service Smart Entry Service (SES) program prior to applying for Global Entry. Korean citizens can apply for SES and Global Entry at http://www.ses.go.kr. Korean citizens will then have to create an account at CBP’s Global Online Enrollment System (GOES), https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov, and pay the Global Entry application fee.
At the GOES site, applicants must first create an account, and then log into their account to submit an application. When applying, be sure to only select the Global Entry option. A $100 non-refundable application fee is paid online at the time of application. Once pre-approved, applicants receive messages in their accounts stating that they are “conditionally approved” for Global Entry, and are invited to schedule the time and location on the GOES website. A special enrollment code has been established titled “Seoul, Korea” which should be used when scheduling appointments in the system. Interviews will be conducted from 9:00am – 6:00pm on November 11-22, 2013 at the Seoul Global Center, room 401, located at Jong-ro 38 gil, Jong-ro Gu, Seoul.
